There are 5.5 million Chinese Americans in the US. Over 750,000 are seniors age 65 and older — and two-thirds of them have limited English proficiency. Existing technology was never built for them. PéiNín Foundation is changing that.

Chinese American seniors are one of the fastest-growing and most underserved populations in the United States. The technology gap they face is not a minor inconvenience — it is a health equity crisis.
Siri, Alexa, Google — all English-first. For Mandarin-speaking seniors, every interaction with technology is a barrier. Asking for directions, reading a medication label, reaching emergency services — all become impossible without fluent English.
Language exclusion leads directly to social isolation. When seniors cannot communicate with neighbors, healthcare providers, or community services, they withdraw — losing the human connection that is essential to healthy aging. For Chinese American seniors, isolation is not just loneliness — it is a documented health and safety risk.
When emergencies happen — a fall, a stroke, a sudden illness — seniors who cannot communicate in English face life-threatening delays in care. Existing alert systems like Life Alert require the user to speak English to describe what happened.
No competitor currently combines Chinese language support, US local context, senior-friendly design, and emergency safety features in a single product. This is not a crowded market — it is an underserved community waiting for a solution built for them.
PéiNín is the first Chinese-language AI companion app built specifically for Chinese American seniors in the United States. We combine conversational AI, emergency safety, and daily wellness — in one simple, senior-friendly interface that requires no English, no complex setup, and no prior technology experience.
Seniors converse naturally in Mandarin — asking questions, getting reminders, receiving local information, and feeling genuinely heard. No English required. No translation needed. Just conversation, the way it should be.
A single button instantly notifies designated family members with the senior's location and situation — in both Chinese and English. Our system bridges the language gap that prevents seniors from reaching help when they need it most.
Every morning, PéiNín greets the senior and checks in. If there is no response within 30 minutes, family members are automatically notified — reducing false positives while ensuring no senior is left unaccounted for.

PéiNín Foundation was founded by Chinese Americans who lived this problem firsthand. We watched our own family members — grandparents, parents, aunts and uncles — struggle with isolation, language barriers, and the quiet fear of being unreachable in an emergency. We knew the technology to help them existed. We also knew no one had built it for them.
We are technologists, caregivers, and community advocates. We have built a working AI prototype that has already been tested with real seniors in the San Francisco Bay Area. We are not building this from a boardroom — we are building it from lived experience, user feedback, and deep respect for the community we serve.
